Who: Tim, Andrew and eventually Glenn.
Agenda:
- Drive up to Timberline lodge (~6,000ft MSL) and construct a Wifi (2.4 GHz) and a GPS (1.5 GHz) cylindrical patch antenna.
- Go to PSU and measure the VSWR and bandwidth.
Things we brought:
- exacto
- long rulers
- foam
- CPA PCB's
- kapton tape
- soldering iron + solder + desoldering stuff (250W iron for ground plane) + flux
- SMA stubs
- GPS w/altimeter
Things we should have brought:
- Glass - a flat surface to built the CPAs on.
What happened:
We tore up to Timberline lodge, built two CPAs in the restaurant/bar area, and zipped down to PSU to test them.
Andrew notes: Silcox hut person Shaundra 503.622.0756. $500 charge for 11:00am - 3:00pm
We met Glenn down at the PSU Microwave Lab and tested out the antennas we built. Here's the data:
Fig 1: Smith Chart of WiFi (2.4 GHz) CPA... yikes!
Fig 2: VSWR of WiFi (2.4 GHz) CPA
Fig 3: Smith Chart of GPS (1.5 GHz) CPA
Fig 4: VSWR of GPS (1.5 GHz) CPA
Fig 5: Retry of the smith Chart of WiFi (2.4 GHz) CPA... better, but why?
Fig 6: Retry of the VSWR of WiFi (2.4 GHz) CPA
Glenn comments: I really need to remember to place the marker over the resonant frequency when recording the screen shots.
