PIC Architecture: Background
RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer)
- 33 (12bit) to 58 (16bit) instructions
- Each instruction does less, but usually executes in one internal clock (Tcyc)
- Reduced addressing modes (Pics have only direct and indirect)
- Example:
- They claim: 2K x 14 words on PIC16CXX is approximately equivalent to 4K x 8 words on other 8-bit microcontrollers
