Jim Ward: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Philosophy: * Define an initial end goal but be flexible enough to take advantage of discoveries along the way and refine that goal as we approach it. * Data analysis should involve as much of the team as possible. The consensus of our results dictate where to go next and these decisions are best made as a team. * Be open source, as long as our shared goals support it, publish a lot and build our reputation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ General goals: * Formalize roles during testing operations to increase safety and improve the integrity of the data that is collected. * Be more involved in finding funding. Regardless of whether that's applying for grants, looking of sponsorship, developing something to sell or just being more aware of opportunities as they present themselves. * Acquire the proficiency to be able to repeat what others have done, first. Afterwards use our success to justify trying things that haven't been tried. * Assist in the completion of a (lab-ready) GOX/Paraffin Hybrid motor that performs at least as well as predicted on paper. * Assist in the completion of a (lab-ready) LOX/Paraffin Hybrid motor that performs at least as well as predicted on paper. Note: "Lab-ready", not to be confused with "lab-scale", means that it should not require all flight ready gear. The lab-ready results will potentially dictate our flight-ready version's component requirements. * Assist in the completion of a (flight-ready) LOX/Paraffin Hybrid motor that performs at least as well as predicted on paper and meets the needs of our launch vehicle (e.g. guidance features, thrust profile, etc.) Note: This could simply be the lab-ready LOX/Paraffin motor with retrofitting. "Flight-ready" means that all the components must be within the physical/functional constraints of our intended flight vehicle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Technical goals: * Solve the "paraffin strength" problem. * Solve the "inconsistent grain erosion" problem. * Improve grain manufacture time and quality. * Improve motor reload time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Personal goals: * Be part of a team that does something that has not been done before. I cannot think of anything that would be more fulfilling. * Keep a promise I made to myself a long time ago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
