GOX Hybrid Prototype Motor (1999)

Partially successful low pressure test of first hybrid. Motor burned well at 90psi for about 30 seconds until chamber wall was compromised due to insufficient inhibiting liner.


Why go hybrid?

1) Safer construction than liquid or Solid motors.

2) Ability to Start, stop, and throttle motor.

3) Less moving parts than liquid motor, higher reliability.

4) Low cost.

5) Higher specific impulse than Solids, Higher density impulse than liquids.

A LOX/HTPB hybrid can have the same performance equivalent as a LOX/Kerosene motor.
